Waxing FAQ’s

Where will my
massage take place?

I have a fully equipped treatment room at my property. You will lie or sit on a treatment couch.

What does waxing involve?
Waxing is the removal of hair by the root using a combination of Strip Wax (Soft) and Non Strip Wax (Hard).  Strip wax is applied to the skin and
then removed using a thin strip of paper. Non Strip wax hardens once applied to the skin. This means it can be removed without the need for a paper strip. Non strip is normally used on the nostrils, ears, under arms and intimate areas.

The waxing process is as follows:

Cleanse – First the area being waxed will be wiped with cleansing lotion to remove any natural oils so the wax can get a good grip.

Oil – A barrier oil will then be applied to the area. This prevents the wax sticking to the skin.

Wax – Strip Wax – A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin in the direction of hair growth.  A thin paper strip is then applied over the wax and
pressed down. The skin will then be stretched slightly to keep it taught and the paper strip will be removed very quickly in the opposite direction to
the hair growth. Pressure is then applied to the area to reduce any sting.

Wax – Non Strip – A thicker layer of wax is applied to the skin in the direction of hair growth. It is then left for a few seconds to harden. Again
the skin will be stretched slightly to keep it taught and the wax will be removed in ‘short bursts’ to minimise and discomfort.

Tweezers – Once the area has been waxed, it will then be checked for any short or stubborn hairs that remain. These will be removed with tweezers.

Oil – A small amount of oil will be rubbed over the area using a paper strip. This will remove any remaining wax from the skin.

Cleanse – The waxed area will then be cleansed again.  This will remove any remaining oil from the skin and clean the area.

Gel and Lotion – A soothing combination of gel and moisturising lotion will be applied to the area to help care for the skin once you
leave.

Does it hurt?
Yes, but not as much as you probably think.  The pain is similar to being flicked with a plastic ruler or pinged with an elastic band. The pain is very
short and subsides very quickly. Once the wax is removed, slight pressure is applied to the area, this and the use of good waxes will ensure any discomfort
is kept to a minimum.  The first time is the worst. Any pain or discomfort will get substantially less with any subsequent waxing.

Will I be sore afterwards?
There may be some soreness and redness to the area for a few hours after the waxing,  The first 2 or 3 times you are waxed, you may experience small
white pimples on your chest or back over the area where the hair follicles are.
These are quite common and can last for a few days. We suggest keeping the area clean and using an antiseptic cream.

Are there any conditions that will prevent me being waxed?
Any contagious skin conditions will prevent treatment  in the area until the condition has completely cleared.  Clients taking Roaccutane must wait
6 months after finishing their medication before receiving a waxing treatment.
I cannot wax broken or sunburnt skin.  Skin that has been treated with steroid creams, Retin-A, Differin or other retinoid acne products cannot be
waxed for 3 months after medication has finished. Waxing is not possible if you have an STI

How long before I go on holiday should I get waxed?
We would not recommend having your first wax before you go on holiday or before any special occasion as the area may be red and sore for a while after the
treatment.  We would suggest having a couple of treatments 4 or 5 weeks apart  and then a further treatment a few days before your holiday.

I’m worried about being naked or becoming aroused.
Don’t panic! I Understand that you may be feeling anxious and self conscious but remember I am providing a professional hair removal service and my top
priority is to make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Some clients experience temporary physical arousal in response to the manipulation
of their genitals. There is no need to be embarrassed if this happens – it is a physiological response and usually subsides fairly rapidly.

How should I prepare for my treatment?
If possible be clean and showered before arriving,  but don’t worry too much if this is not possible as you will be given wipes to freshen up in
private before the treatment. Do not use hair removal creams of shave the area being waxed for at least 3 weeks before your treatment. If you wax already,
please leave at least 4 weeks between treatments.

How long will the treatment take?
This depends on what you are having waxed and how hairy you are. I can give you a better idea when we know what you are having treated, but please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for any treatment

How long will the results last?
This varies from person to person and depends if you wax regularly. New hair growth that is about to break through the skin at the time of your treatment
will not be removed. This may give the impression that the waxing was not very successful. It would normally take 3 or 4 regular appointments to get on a hair
growth cycle that will produce the best results.  Unlike shaving or hair removal creams, hair grows back slower and softer.

How much does it cost?
Please check my price list to see the price ranges.

What does clippering involve?
If you can’t bear the thought of waxing, I offer a clippering service. Like your barber, I use Wahl trimmers to shorten and tidy excess hair.

Massage FAQ’s

Where will my massage take place?
I have a fully equipped treatment room at my property. You will lie on a massage table, the room will be warm and dimly lit with either essential oils
or incense burning. Soft music will be playing to help you relax.

What do I wear during the massage?
Depends on what areas you are having massaged. For the full body, you can keep your underwear on if you wish. You will be covered with towels
throughout.

What do I do during the massage treatment?
Just relax. You may talk to the therapist if you wish, but it is generally more relaxing to remain quiet and listen to the soft music playing.
The therapist may move or ask you to move parts of your body in order to manipulate different areas. Do not hesitate to ask questions at anytime.

How will a massage feel?
It usually depends on the techniques used. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes (effleurage) that will help
calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas
and relieve areas of muscular tension. A light oil is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not
hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that I can use another approach or technique.

Is there anything that would prevent me having a massage?
Yes, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That’s why it is necessary that you fill out the health history
forms and before you begin your session. I will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is very important
that you inform me of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written
recommendation for massage prior to any session. I require a recommendation or approval from your doctor.

How will I feel after the treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial
period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since
toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.
